Late Spring checklist for your garden:

  • Remove dead, damaged and diseased branches from woody plants. Prune spring flowering shrubs (forsythia, bridal wreath spirea, flowering almond, etc.) after blooming. Save some sturdy twigs to stake tall perennials later this season.

  • Plant container-grown plants anytime during the growing season; be sure to water them thoroughly. Sow seeds of cool season flowers like sweet peas, poppies and vegetables such as lettuce, parsley and spinach.

  • Use mulch for one of the most valuable labour saving aids a gardener can have. With mulches, you will weed less often, water less often and have healthier plants.
